PROFILE

Vilmorin SA is a French company specialized in the creation, production and marketing of vegetable seeds and tree seeds. Entirely dedicated to agricultural professionals, the company reaches a turnover of 141 million euros in 2014 – 2015 and has 750 employees worldwide. Its seed varieties are distributed across more than 100 countries. The world leader for carrots and witloof chicory, Vilmorin is also a major player in lettuce, elongated tomato and tree seeds. A third of our workforce and 16% of our turnover is dedicated to research and we put, on average, about 30 new varieties per year onto the market.

ROLE IN THE PROJECT

As a leader for carrot seeds sales, Vilmorin is impacted by the emerging pathogen Candidatus Liberibacter Solanacearum that is transmitted by the seeds. Two research teams, one specialized on seeds pathology and the other on plants pathology, will be involved in the WP3 and WP4 in order to better characterize the pathogen and to developed an efficient detection tool. Thanks to its experimentation network , Vilmorin will also provide symptomatic plant samples from the key production areas. In addition, a contribution will be given to increase the project external visibility
