PROFILE

Luonnonvarakeskus (Luke; Natural Resources Institute Finland) is a non-profit public research organization operating under the Finnish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry at 38 locations across Finland. With a turnover of 140 M€ (2014) and a staff of about 1600 persons, Luke is the leading Finnish research institute in all areas of the bio-economy, including agriculture, food, forestry, natural resource management and biotechnology. Luke was created by the merge of four institutes and commenced its operation on 01 January 2015. Luke brings together expertise in renewable natural resources and responsible food production and provides innovative solutions that promote new business activities. Luke is widely experienced in relevant international networks and European consortia -under EU-FP7 (2007-2013) MTT alone has been a partner in 23 projects.

ROLE IN THE PROJECT

Luke will be a sub-coordinator for the project concerning ‘Candidatus Liberibacter solanacearum’ and will help the coordinator to guarantee the correct implementation of the activities and the achievement of the objectives. Luke will help identification of the vector(s) involved in the natural spread of CaLsol and the implementation of sustainable strategies for a direct control of their populations, will perform investigations on disease epidemiology and will carry out studies on the genetic diversity of CaLsol in collaboration with University of Helsinki. In addition, a contribution will be given to promote dissemination activities.
