Des millions d’oliviers menacés par une bactérie à travers l’Europe

Depuis 2013, la bactérie xylella fastidiosa décime des oliviers en Italie, mais aussi en France et aux Baléares

Les oléiculteurs corses sont inquiets. Mardi, ils dénonçaient le “risque majeur que fait encourir la politique actuelle de dérogations pour l’entrée de végétaux à la Corse”. Au début du mois, la bactérie xylella fastidiosa avait été détectée, pour la première fois, aux Balérares. Depuis, l’archipel espagnol est classé en zone infectée. “Les zones dites saines hier, ne le sont plus aujourd’hui : après l’Italie, la Corse, le continent français, l’Allemagne…. l’Espagne est contaminée à son tour par la bactérie. C’est pourtant la principale source d’approvisionnement en plantes pour l’île depuis près de deux ans”, écrit le syndicat interprofessionnel des oléiculteurs corses (Sidoc) dans un communiqué.

70 % des plants venus d’Espagne

“Le régime de dérogation actuel ne protège pas la Corse de l’entrée d’une nouvelle souche de xylella fastidiosa, bien au contraire …. plus d’1,8 million de plants sont entrés sur l’île par dérogation, dont 7.324 oliviers. 70% l’étaient en provenance d’Espagne”, dénonce le Sidoc. Pour le syndicat, “il ne reste plus de zones garanties saines, pourtant la Corse continue à importer”. Il demande de “produire localement les plants dont la Corse a besoin”.

Plusieurs souches découvertes

Trois sous-espèces du parasite végétal ont été identifiées : la multiplex comme en Corse, qui s’attaque majoritairement aux amandiers, oliviers et chênes, les souches pauca, qui ravagent les oliviers des Pouilles, en Italie, et la sous-espèce fastidiosa, “pathogène de l’olivier des vinges, des agrumes et de 117 autres espèces végétales”, selon le Sidoc, et dont l’île est exempte pour le moment.
