IAS.CSIC.ES | Investigadores del IAS participan en el Proyecto POnTE

El CSIC a través de sus investigadores en el Instituto de Agricultura Sostenible: B. B. Landa, J. A. Navas-Cortés y P. Zarco; y del Instituto de Ciencias Agrarias: A. Fereres Y A. Moreno, participa en un nuevo proyecto europeo de la convocatoria “SUSTAINABLE FOOD SECURITY H2020-SFS-2014-2015 SFS-03a-2014: Native and alien pests in agriculture and forestry” titulado POnTE: Pest Organisms Threathening Europe.

El proyecto ‘POnTE’, el primer gran proyecto transnacional de investigación financiado por la Comisión Europea para avanzar en la lucha contra la bacteria ‘Xylella fastidiosa’, que ha desatado la alarma entre los productores de aceite europeos ya que en Italia ya ha arrasado miles de olivos. En este proyecto Horizonte 2020 se diseñará una estrategia europea para la gestión integrada de la enfermedad, con el objetivo de desarrollar las medidas de prevención, detección, contención y erradicación más adecuadas desde el punto de vista técnico, económico y medioambiental.

Como novedad, la investigación partirá estudiando la propia genética, biología, epidemiología y ecología del organismo transmisor, y finalizará evaluando las repercusiones económicas de la enfermedad. Además este proyecto
se estudiarán otros patógenos que atacan a la patata, el tomate, el pimiento y diversas especies forestales. En la investigación participan 25 entidades y centros de investigación procedentes de 10 países de la UE, liderados por el Consejo Nacional de Investigación – Instituto para la Protección Sostenible de las Plantas ( CNR- IPSP ) de Italia.

OBJETIVO

Minimizar el riesgo de introducción / impacto de las plagas emergentes que amenazan la agricultura y los bosques de la UE. En concreto, el proyecto se centra en:

Xylella fastidiosa y sus vectores en olivo, vid, cítricos, frutas con hueso, plantas ornamentales y árboles del paisaje de gran importancia socio-económica
Ca. Liberibacter solanacearum y sus vectores, que afecta a un número de cultivos estratégicos como la patata, el tomate y la zanahoria
Hymenoscyphus pseudoalbidus (anamorph. Chalara fraxinea) y Phytophthora spp. que afectan gravemente a las especies de hoja ancha y coníferas en los ecosistemas forestales

RESULTADOS ESPERADOS

Aplicar las evaluaciones del riesgo de plagas de área amplia
Impedir la entrada y desarrollar herramientas de vigilancia y detección temprana (kits de diagnóstico, lab-on-a-chip, y nuevos biomarcadores)
Mitigar la propagación y reducir el impacto socio-económico de esta senfermedades
Gestión integrada de estas enfermedades basada en la resistencia, semillas libres de enfermedades, prácticas culturales y tratamientos respetuosos con el medio ambiente
Apoyo a políticas de toma de decisiones a nivel de la UE basadas en el conocimiento

PRESUSPUESTO: 6.890.556 euros
