Three new outbreaks of Xylella fastidiosa discovered in Apulia

New infected olive groves have been identified in Apulia Region, in the municipality of Francavilla Fontana, province of Brindisi. The newly infected olive trees are located in the “containment zone”, as defined by the Implementing Decision (EU) 2016/764 of the European Commission, and further extend, up to nearly 3.5 km, the diameter of the outbreak of Oria, becoming the northernmost finding of Xylella fastidiosa in the region.

In total, in the new “containment zone” 25 trees resulted positive to the pathogen so far, however further analyses on the hosts located in the vicinity of the newly infected olive groves are currently underway.

The new outbreaks have been reported on the map available on the official website dedicated to Xylella monitoring in Apulia.
