A conference on Xylella and the fight against pest and diseases in the EU organized by AVA-ASAJA in Valencia

On Tuesday 10 May, the Spanish regional grower association AVA-ASAJA will organize the conference “Xylella fastidiosa and the fight against pests and diseases in the EU”.

Dr Maria M. Lopez from IVIA, member of the POnTE consortium, will give a talk about the different diseases caused by Xylella from a global perspective, focusing not only olive but also on other crops such as citrus, grapevine and almond.

Dr Antonio Vicent also from IVIA will summarize the structure of the POnTE project and main objectives to be accomplished during the next years. The most relevant research activities about Xylella as well as the other pathogens approached in the project, ‘Candidatus Liberibacter solanaceraum’ in row crops, and Phytophthora and Hymenoscyphus fraxineus in forest trees, will be briefly described.

Representatives of the Spanish national and regional phytosanitary authorities, European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), European Crop Protection Association (ECPA), and the European farmers association COPA-COGECA will participate also in the conference.
