My research area involves studying phytopathogenic prokaryotes, in particular plant pathogenic bacteria causing bacterial diseases. Emphasis is on detection and identification of plant pathogenic prokaryotes using classical and molecular techniques, development and optimization of new diagnostic procedures and studying biocontrol agents for bacterial disease control. I am also interested in phylogeny, taxonomy, epidemiology of known as well as new, emerging and quarantine pathogens and diseases. Besides scientific work my expertise includes teaching students, monitoring of agricultural crops for the presence of quarantine plant pathogenic prokaryotes, providing laboratory analysis of plant material for the presence of plant pathogenic bacteria and phytoplasmas for the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, phytosanitary service, companies and farmers. I have been participating in national and international training courses and projects (AREA–FP7, COST-Action 873, ERWINDECT–EUPHRESCO, TEMPUS).
